Belfield Valve Sizing & Selection

Select for the Duty, Not the Pipe Size

Capacity depends on the liquids and the complete installation. Temperature, viscosity, specific gravity, float ballast and pipework all affect the result. Published nominal capacities use a reference head of 25 feet, or 7.5 metres; they are not guaranteed flow rates for every process.

How the Process Works

01

Define the liquid pair and operating conditions.

02

Provide normal and maximum head, required flow and a piping sketch.

03

Ask PMA to confirm the model, materials and connection details.

A cutaway explains the float mechanism. Dimensions and installation details must come from the documents approved for your selected model.

Published Model Reference

The following brochure values are nominal capacities at the stated reference head. Flange standards, materials, final dimensions and capacity corrections require confirmation for the application. Units are imperial gallons per hour and inches.

Conditions That Need Detailed Review

Refer close-density liquids, changing temperatures, high viscosity, suspended solids, wax, flashing and pump-fed systems to PMA. Do not extrapolate beyond nominal capacity. Consult the Performance page and the brochure for the published temperature, viscosity and head guidance.

Process-Data Checklist

  • Liquid identities, density and viscosity at operating temperature
  • Minimum, normal and maximum temperature and pressure
  • Required flow, available head and downstream conditions
  • Solids, emulsions, wax or flashing risks
  • Connection sizes, materials and a vessel or P&ID sketch

Common Application Questions

What information should I send?

Include liquid names, specific gravities and viscosities at operating temperature, minimum and maximum temperatures, solids, flow, pressure, head, connection details and a vessel or P&ID sketch.

Can I download a project-approved drawing?

The brochure and manual provide general guidance. Ask PMA for current dimensions, flange details and drawing availability for the exact quoted model and project revision.

Prepare Your Enquiry

Review the brochure and operating manual, then send your process data and a vessel or piping sketch to PMA.
